Taiwan and HK Trip, Part 1

After 8 days of Taiwan and 2 days of Hong Kong, I'm so tired... Here's a brief details on my trip. Ready, Get set, Go!

First Day...

We went to airport to meet up with my cousin and their children and then our tour guide - Uncle Terry.  P.S. My niece is 10 years old(2009) and my nephew is 12 years old(2009). He told us to call him Uncle Teddy Bear! Diao! You guess what ?  I was given a kid meal on board. You see, I may not look like a kid but they gave me the kids meal. Oh man, the meal was horrible !!! .

After landing, we were brought to Keelung Night Market to have our dinner and shopping. Oh yah, there is another local tour guide. He is Lan Tian, which means blue sky. On the way to the night market, Uncle Blue Sky said that we had one hour to shop and eat. But one really pro aunty said that it was not enough and asked for another half an hour more! I was damn tired and had to put up for another half an hour more. What a bad day to start with... Hotel, WORST!

Second Day...

We had to wake up at 7.30am so that we can set out at 8.30am to Jiu Fen Village. Jiu Fen Village is an old town at a hill. You find steep steps, winding streets and lots of shops along the street and stunning Pacific Ocean view. The village is named as 'Jiu Fen' due to 9 households were living there long time ago. These 9 families took turn to go down hill to shop for groceries for all the others. As the shopkeepers always have to prepare 9 portions of groceries, they named that village as "Jiu fen", which means 9 portions...

We bought some souvenirs. We didn't try out the famous food stall. Instead we had fishball soup as early lunch. Taste... Er... so so only! Then we proceed to a seaside village to view one old temple. Nothing much there. After that, we took a train to Hualien.

At dusk, we reached Hualien. Uncle Blue Sky brought us to a beach to play firecrackers. You can find all kinds of firecrakcers from the vendor at the beach.  Each time, we shouted 'Hua!' (which mean "to gain prosperity" in Hokkien) when our fire rockets shot up. Everybody went crazy.  Last but not least, all of us wrote our wishes on a Sky Lantern before released it to the sky. May all our wishes come true.

We checked in "Blue Sea Blue Sky Coast Hotel"... Hmm.. this hotel is much better than yesterday

Third Day...

Today, we visited Taroko Gorge National Park. Beautiful and spectacular scenery. You can find out more from the album in my facebook.

On the way, we visited one marble factory. We snapped more photos with those Chinese Zodiac statues displayed outside the retail shop.

We had a toilet break at one of the floral farm. We kept snapping more photo with rows and rows of colourful flowers and scarecrows as the backdrop of our photo. Daddy was kind enough to buy me a scoop of ice-cream. Yummy...

Along the way, we saw some destruction as result of the recent flood happened on the eve of Father's Day. (Father's Day is 8 of Aug in Taiwan).

We checked into one of the spa hotel. The room.... er... worst than 1st night.

Fourth Day...

We travelled all the way to a  film site to view the lead actor house called "Aga House". Waste time.

We took a ferry to Chijin Island. Tried out chou dou fu at the Seafood Stree. It is really stinky.Actually I did not try out the chou dou fu but the smell is enough to kill me.

We also tried out other local snacks, like BBQ squid and deep fried cod fillet

At night, we visited Liuhe Night Market at Kaoshiung. We sampled the  famous papaya milk from one of the famous stall at the night market. Er.. I can't really tell the difference.

As Liuhe Night Market offers food choices rather than shopping options, Uncle Sky Blue suggested to take MRT to another night market which offers more shopping options, after dinner.

We boarded the train at the Formosa Boulverd Station and alighted at the Central Park Station. We snapped a lot of pictures. Inside the 1st station, there is beautiful stained glass art displayed at the dome. Many of us were enchanted by the impressive artworks. For me, not really...

2nd station has a beautiful entrance decorated with artificial sunflowers and long escalators leading to the Park outside. Oh yes and true ... the other market is a better night market for shopper. I bought a pair of sneaker which costs only NT$150 (which is about S$6.80).

We checked in Urban 33 Hotel at Kashoshiung.. Finally, this is a hotel that meet our expectation.. Nice ambience.. The breakfast buffet in the next morning was quite enjoyable too.

Fifth Day...

We were at Fo Guang Shan, literally Budda's light mountain. Inside, there is one temple with a huge bell and stick sitting at the tower. By striking three times, you will be blessed with wealth, good health and wisdom. My mother then asked me to 'Bang' the bell as loud as I can, I picked up the stick and struck three times.

Finally, we came to the much awaited iternary - Dakeng Recreational Farm. All children were jolly the moment they see chicken running at the entrance. We bought packets of food from a vending machine and started to feed the chickens. We tried out flying fox, rope bridge and viewed the sunset. After dinner, we had karaoke and DIY taiwanese mochi rice cake session.

Roosters in the farm started to crow at 2am. Luckily, I slept like a log.

Morning was chilling. You did not realise it was foggy until we snapped the picture. Can you see this picture is foggy, right ?
We fed the chicken in the farm merrily after breakfast again... The chicks were extremely cute...
